Welcome to another issue of our newsletter! Find out who our upcoming speakers are, what we covered in this week's meeting and any other scheduled events.
The Tunnel fire is being managed, the editor found her meeting notes, and this weekend there are TWO opportunities for volunteering:
1) Flagstaff Junior Academy, 306 W. Cedar Ave., at 9:00 AM. Tasks will include gardening, cleaning, etc.
AND/OR
2) Our club's Centennial Mural any time from 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM. Drop by the mural-in-progress and spend a few minutes making your immortal (well, maybe not quite that lasting) mark. Every Rotarian there that day will get to help create some "volunteer hands" on the mural itself and will get a Rotary Week of Service t-shirt. Be aware that paint will be in the vicinity and dress wisely. A photographer will be there 10:30-11:00 AM for group shots.

On April 19th we met in person and on zoom. We had 16 members in house.
Club President Tonya Watson called the 18th meeting of the 2021-2022 Rotary year at 12:07 pm. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Richard Lozano. Tonya led the Club in a moment of silent reflection for hope for sustained peace throughout the world.
The Rotary Moment was a RI international viodes on how Rotary Suppports Mothers and Babies as April's theme is Maternal and Child Health.
Mike Williams introduced Club member Eric Wolverton, Executive Director of the Habitat for Humanity of Northern AZ (HFHNAZ). Eric spoke on how to create wealth from equity. Home ownership is the name of the game.
HFHNAZ has used the traditional method of building 1-2 homes a year as affordable housing but has come to the conclusion that this program is just not making a dent in affordable housing.
As a result, the decision was made to think outside the box to a new model,
called the Starter Home Project. The home will be a 400 square foot house designed for a couple and one child.
The purpose of the project is to give participants the opportunity to create wealth through home ownership, and to allow HFHNAZ to create properties that can be used by more than one family.
The first house is being built on city property at the corner of O'Leary Street and Butler Ave and will be completed in May.
