This week's program
President Carla called the 19th meeting of the Rotary year to order at 12:01.  The Pledge was led by Kimberly Bally-Herbert.
Chris Verrill announced that April 6 was the AZ GIVES statewide project.  The Arizona Gives program is run by the Alliance of the Arizona Nonprofits and the Arizona Grantmakers Forum.  The event was started in 2013 to connect people with causes they believe in and build a lasting, stronger spirit of philanthropy.  Since its inception, Arizona Gives Day has raised nearly $30 million for nonprofits statewide.
Mike Williams presented the details of the Rotarians at Work Week project. An email invitation was been sent out.  We will meet at the Flagstaff Family Food Center next Saturday, April 24, at 10:00am.  Monetary gifts and / or food donations will be accepted in addition to our time.
The meeting had a 5 minute breakout for the club members to socialize!
Tonya Watson presented an update on the Centennial Committee activities. The centennial reflects that the Rotary is one of the longest continuous civic organizations in Flagstaff.  The committee wants the project(s) to be a lasting legacy which will be enjoyed by all citizens of Flagstaff.
  1. Project #1 is to purchase and install a decorative and functional clock downtown.  This will be in partnership with the City of Flagstaff. The approximate cost is $25,000 for a four-faced clock on a tall, statuesque post with a Rotary emblem on the dial of each face. The cost will be partially offset by corporate and personal sponsorships, which will be noted on the base of the clock.
  2.  Project #2 is to create a mural or mosaic tile art on the rear/north side of the Peace Surplus building downtown.  The club will be partnering with the Flagstaff Arts & Leadership Academy (FALA) to create this public art.
  3. The downtown mural and clock projects will be partially supported by proceeds from the golf tournament, a city grant, Rotary District 5495 grants, and a donor campaign.
  4. The club was presented a suggestion of a 2nd fundraiser in the spring of 2022.  A Mountain Melt lottery type fundraiser where the club would work sell tickets for the date the San Francisco Peaks are without snow.  The Lowell Observatory would partner with us on this, and would provide the official “no snow” date.  This activity would be similar to fundraiser at the Dillon Reservoir event in Colorado.  https://www.summitdaily.com/news/ice-melt-device-placed-on-dillon-reservoir-for-annual-fundraiser/
Lee Raddatz presented an update on the August 2nd 2021 Puttin’ In the Pines golf outing.  The golf committee met on Friday April 2 to start actively working on the day.  A flyer has been created and sent to every club in the district.  The event has been added to our calendar, and the district calendar.  It will be included in the May district newsletter.  This year the event will be just a simple golf outing including a par 3 car event.  It will not have a silent auction.  The expectation of club members is to sell a foursome and to sell at least one $150 hole sponsor.
Eric Walden noted the Interact Club is fundraising on two projects this spring.  There was an event on Saturday, April 10th to support the Crutches for Africa program, and also a fund drive for menstrual products to provide to local groups.
President Carla announced she is having a social at her home on Friday, April 23 from 5-6:30 pm.
