The group was asked who was forced to be a member of Rotary. When no one raised their hands, Eric reminded us that we are all willingly attending. We an impact by doing so. One example is End Polio Now! We have reduced polio by 99.99% since Rotary’s initial project in the Philippians. Polio is still present in three countries: Nigeria, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.
President talked about a flyer placed at each table asking club members to consider donating directly to the Rotary Foundation rather than through our dues. The club could receive a no strings $2,000 grant.
Mike C. said the bowling fundraiser for Elevate Nepal was very successful. They had a goal of 25,000 but raised over $30,000!

Coconino County Spelling Bee

by Vaughan Winborne
The spelling bee held February 8, at Coconino High School was impressive as usual, with the middle school and younger scholars dazzling us with their feats of memory.  Hannah Dodt was the first place finisher with our prize of $250.  She is the tall girl at the left in the photograph.
Editor's note:  For the third straight year, Vaughan served as a judge.  Hannah also won the spelling bee in 2019.

Rotary Direct

Instead of having your contributions to the Rotary Foundation ($25 per quarter) billed to you and then remitted by the club to the Rotary Foundation, we are being encouraged to sign up for Rotary Direct where you can have periodic donations charged to your credit card or bank account. It is simple and lowers the administrative burden on the club.  If you need more information about setting up Rotary Direct, contact Tonya, Mike Hosking or Jeff.  For information on the District contest for Rotary Direct click on the following link.
