SPEAKER
Our speaker was Rotarian Paul Wagner and the topic was a June service event in Chinle AZ. The event was organized by Debbie Wilde of the RC of Glenwood Springs CO and Chinle Planting Hope (CPH), a 503 (c)(3) based in Chinle AZ. Their purpose is
"We are committed to working together to bring hope and empowerment
to families and communities on the Navajo Nation"
In Chinle, the CPH has a bookmobile, a community volunteer program, a bicycle repair shop, a community garden, and a thrift store. The weekend activities included repairing roofs, planting the garden, organizing the donations for the thrift store and cataloging new book donations for the bookmobile.
4 from our club participated. Paul and Sue, and Rotarian Phil Hagen and his wife Laurie. They were in Chinle the weekend of June 6-8. There may be another opportunity to help during this fall (Sept or Oct weekend) to work on a building for their Imagination Station, a STEM based learning area for the kids in the county.
Paul noted this would be a great opportunity for our club to partner with the Glenwood Springs club to help our Navajo neighbors on an ongoing basis. He will keep us up to date on the dates where we can go to Chinle and provide service above self.
