Welcome to another issue of our newsletter! Find out who our upcoming speakers are, what we covered in this week's meeting and any other scheduled events.
We met in person and on zoom. We had 13 members in house plus 2 on Zoom, and 1 guest. Meredith's daughter xxxx was our guest. Our fearless leader Tonya, and Sgt-at-arms Steve were on Zoom from the RI Convention in Houston.
Club President Tonya Watson called the 12th meeting of the 2021-2022 Rotary year at 12:01pm. with Paul ringing the bell. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Dino. Tonya led the club in a moment of silent reflection for hope for sustained peace throughout the world.
The Rotary Moment was led by Eric Walden discussing RI's June theme of Rotary Fellowship Groups Month. Rotary Fellowhsip groups are international alliances of Rotarians that share a common passion or interest. It could be a vocation but does not need to be. At the RI Convention, these groups gather so members can meet in person. Thanks for being Rotarians!

Rotary International Convention
Tonya presented her take on what has been happening in Houston TX at the Rotary International Convention. The Theme is "Discover New Horizons" The convention is very international. Not only are there many languages on the signage, but chatter is many languages is heard all over the place. There are both educational and fun activities available. They enjoyed their trip out to the Houston Space Center and meeting all kinds of folks in the House of Friendship.
From the RI website: "People who can’t attend in person can take part in the virtual convention, which will include live-streamed general sessions and select breakout sessions, as well as a virtual House of Friendship. We’ve built on our previous experience with convention apps and used what we’ve learned about online meetings in the past two years to create a hybrid experience that will keep people connected. Recordings will be available through 31 August."

Announcements and Other News
Vocational Service
Hoppy gave the vocation service chat today. His classification is electrical engineering. He was inspired by Sputnik to become an engineer. After college, he worked at in aerospace at Lockheed designing systems for a space telescope. However, in the early 70s the US ended spending quite so much on the space program; Hoppy changed his vocation to faculty member where he found his calling. He eventually became a Professor. He taught in Saudi Arabia in the late 70's, then in Alabama, and then was tempted to NAU by a colleague from his Saudi Arabian days. He's been in Flagstaff since 1983. He retired in 2005 and since has been honing his "honey do" abilities around the house.
golf fundraiser
Laura provided a walkthrough of the online golfer registration system. It is part of the Club Runner website and she has heard it is easy to navigate. She also handed out the sponsorship flyer an a trifold golfer informational sheet.
The key to success in this fundraiser is the selling of sponsorships. Last year we sold Hole Sponsorships only. We are doing that again this year. For $150 the sponsor will get advertising on the course during the event.
For higher level sponsorships, these organizations will get visibility in local media both before and after the fundraiser. Additionally, the higher level sponsors will have their logo on our 2022 golf website information.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to support the Northland Hospice, Community College scholarships for the Foundation, and other local activities.
