This week's program
President Carla called the 8th meeting of the Rotary year to order at 12:03.  The Pledge was led by Micah. President Carla introduced PDG David Zimmer, who joined us today to help PDG Tonya present a great service opportunity for her Rotary year, 2021/22.  Presented was the opportunity for our club to be the Host Club of a Global Grant - Navajo Water Project Dilkon Arizona Phase 3 - to install running water to homes on the Navajo Reservation through an organization named Dig Deep - a California based 501(c)(3).  The sponsor is Texas District 5870, which will be responsible for the fundraising for the global grant.  The project is to provide water to up to 100 homes in  the Dilkon chapter.  Dig Deep installs a tank for water storage, a water heater and then plumbs the home.  Our responsibility as host club will be: 1) submit the grant (a clone of Dilkon 1 & 2), stewardship of funds, inspection of installations, communication with donor clubs, and final reporting to Rotary International.  PDG Tonya is very excited about this opportunity to participate in a meaningful way on a project that improves the lives of our neighbors to the north.  Stay tuned for more information.

President Carla reported on our club social on Friday at Frances Short Pond.  5 Rotarians and one spouse (Rosemary Hopkins) attended and had a great time catching up.  But its getting dark and cold early, so our next social needs to be earlier...perhaps a Sunday afternoon at the Rotary Ramada at Buffalo Park.  The picture above was taken at the social at Paul's house in September, where Lee Raddatz was awarded his Paul Harris Plus 2.  We were wearing masks, but removed them briefly for the picture and were holding our breath!!!

Micah was next on the agenda, with the distinct pleasure of presenting two more PH awards.  The first was to Hoppy, his PH+2, and the second was to President Carla, her PH+5.  Congratulations, and thank you for your commitment to our Rotary Foundation!

The next part of the meeting was a quick update of club business.  First, Eric reported that the Interact club is off and running on their second service project of the year - mask making.  The members sewed side-by-side (on Zoom) so they could help one another and have some fun.  They plan to sew individually for the rest of the month.

Paul will be on hand to help members to access Clubrunner to update their profiles as well as become familiar with our website.  Mike has a service project planned for this weekend, building hand washing stations for Redfeather, to be delivered to Native American locations. Please let him know if you can help.  Steve said he and Chad had been focusing on non-profit and government organizations to find speakers for meetings, but wanted to expand to include the private sector.  President Carla said to not forget opportunities to get speakers from our District leadership.  Please send you ideas for speakers to Steve and Chad!  Thanks to an idea by Mike at the last board meeting, quarterly financials are now posted on Clubrunner, for you review.  Lee Riddell and Carla have been looking for a Spring fundraiser for our club.  They will present their suggestions later this year.

Carla took a vote to determine how many club members were interested in going back to face-to-face meetings.  About 75% of members present were interested, with 25% not sure.  We will discuss options, including hybrid meetings at the November Board meeting.

December 1st is Charter Night!  The Flagstaff Rotary Club will be 99 years old that day, so we're going to celebrate.  The meeting will have a different format, so look for event details in the near future.  We will be meeting in the evening that day with spouses, so save the date!

Our next meeting is November 3, when our speaker will be Sgt. Hernandez II from the Flagstaff Police Department. PE Tonya will be presiding as Carla will be in the bottom of the Grand Canyon! The 4 Way Test was led by President Carla and the meeting was adjourned at 12:59.
