Our Centennial Year!

17 Members, and 1 Guest joined us in person and via Zoom.  Our visitor was Reagan, a junior business major at NAU looking to make contact with the Interact club there.
 

Club President Tonya Watson called the 6th meeting of the 2021-2022 Rotary year at 12:05pm.  The Pledge was led by Dino Dullbson.  Tonya led the club in a moment of silence.

 

 
The Rotary Moment was led by Eric Walden on RI's October's theme of Economic and Community Development .  He spoke about the micro loan program and the impact that it has on women and their families.
 
This week's program
Sargent-At-Arms Steve C introduced Charlie Tegarden, the District  5495 Rotary Foundation Committee Chair.
 

The mission of The Rotary Foundation of Rotary International is to enable Rotarians to advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through the improvement of health, the support of education, and the alleviation of poverty.

Polio Plus program has resulted in only 2 cases of Polio in 2021!  It has been 241 days since the last case was identified on 1/1/2021.  Pakistan and Afganistan are the only two countries that have not been certified as polio free.

District 5495 currently has 
  • $2.5 M in active global grants
  • $85K in district grants
  • Navaho Water Project, phases 1-3 $1 M in our district.
 
Charlie noted the district is encouraging all Rotary Clubs to be 100% Paul Harris Fellows.  The district goal is for every member to contribute $156 to the Foundation annually.  Steve Cervantes is leading this effort in our club.
 
 
Steve Cervantes presented Paul Wagner with a PH+1 award for his contributions to the Foundation.
 
Tonya closed the program by noting this month's  book will be donated in Charlie's name to the FFFC Reading Room.
 
 
Announcements and Other News

VISIONING Project 

 
Past President Carla spoke about the club being selected to pilot the Visioning Project in District 5495.  The Club Visioning activity will be a 4 hour meeting to develop a unique plan for the future of our club. All members can participate in this.  It is tentatively scheduled for February 2022.
 
 

VOCATIONAL SERVICE 

President Tonya introduced Kimberly Batty-Herber for this meeting's  "CRAFT TALK" to focus on Vocational Service in our community. 
 
Kimberly has spent 35 years in the rewarding work of assisting students who need opportunities.  She currently is the Dean of Learning at the Coconino Community College and suggests we should never stop being students and learners.

 

Rotary Call to action….

Tonya is looking for historical documents and pictures that will be included in our December 1 Charter Night activities. 
 
Suggestions for speakers can be sent to Mike Williams. 
 
Suggestion for monthly service and social activities can be sent to Millie Alexander.
 
 

Community Service Activities

Tonya has opened up announcements during the meeting for announcements of volunteering activities that we Rotarians are participating in.  The announcements made will be repeated here in the newsletter.
 

Wrap up Rotary announcements

Our weekly ‘split the pot’ card game aka “Hoppe Bucks” is up to around $400.  Chris Verrill did not draw the joker.... and so the game continues.
 

Mark your calendars! 

Keep in mind the October volunteer project Oct 16th, 9-11am at the train depot.  We will be re-painting the Rotary wheel there.
 
Join us at the October social - Line Dancing at the Museum Club on October 21.  The beginner class starts at 5pm so. be there at 4:45.
 
Pencil in the Visioning project in February and the Mural in April 2022.
