Club President Tonya Watson called the 13th meeting of the 2021-2022 Rotary year at 12:04pm. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Steve Colf. Tonya led the club in a moment of silent reflection.
The Rotary Moment was led by Eric Walden discussing RI's February theme of Peace & Conflict Resolution.Over 70 million people are displaced today as a result of conflict, violence, persecution, and human rights violations. Rotary is a humanitarian organization and peace is a keystone of our mission. Rotary creates environments where peace can happen. Thanks for being Rotarians!
This week's program!
Mike Williams introduced PDG Alan Havir. Alan is a professional musician. he worked his first profession gig a few years ago when he was 14!
Alan gave a wonderful presentation, including live drumming, about the styles of drumming (round vs square) and how that relates to the meter of the music. Round is for swing, polka, dance type music that is in 3.4 or 6-8 meter. Square drumming is the four beat rock and roll, head-banging meter.
Alan is still performing, and working in Phoenix with this daughter in music, and event activities.
As with all speakers, Tonya presented a thank-you book: “Dog Man – A Tale of Two Kitties” by Dav Pilkey. It will be donated in Alan's name to the Flagstaff Family Food Center Reading Room.

Congratulations to the Interactors and mentors - Eric and Kimberly Batty-Herbert.

Chris Verrill gave the two minute talk. He spoke about his introduction to Rotary, where 9/11/2001 happened soon after he joined a club in CA. This resulted in him spending time in the Afghanistan / Pakistan border doing international service for refugees. Chris tied that back to the February theme of Peace & Conflict Resolution.
