President Jeff called the first meeting of the Rotary year to order at 12:04.  The Pledge was led by Frank and Hoppy honored the upcoming holiday by leading us in “The Star Spangled Banner.”

Eric Walden shared information on Peace Fellowships during the Rotary moment.  Each year, up to 100 fellowships are awarded to study at a RI peace center, for either a Master’s degree program, or a professional development certificate program.

Steve introduced our guest speaker, Pastor Bob Norton, a former member of Flagstaff Rotary!  After 43 years as a pastor, he is on to his new career of free lance writing.  He recently returned from France after seeing where his father landed, and was wounded, on D Day.  Part of the 2nd Ranger Battallion, his father was the 2nd of 225 to scale the 100 foot cliff on June 6, 1944.  Unfortunately, shortly thereafter, he was wounded by friendly fire.  The nearby town of Bayeux was the first major town secured by the Allies, and survived virtually untouched during the battle.

Prez Jeff reminded us of the upcoming social to be held at his home, on July 18.  Brats and burgers to be provided, please bring a side dish and alcoholic beverage of choice.  PLEASE…RSVP for this event by clicking on the link below.

Our next meeting is July 16, when District Governor David Simmer will make his official club visit.

Carla led us in the 4 Way Test, and the meeting was adjourned at 1:02 PM.
