Rotary moment by Eric Walden:
How can we be more aware of Rotary as it exists in the world beyond the RI info on the internet? Tom Bosely & Marion Ross appeared in a rerun of an old Love Boat show with Andy Warhol who was to take Tom’s  photo as an incoming Rotary President which was his lifetime dream. Eric asked us to make a note of any unusual mentions of Rotary you come across in your daily life and to please share with the club.
Jeff asked if members have location ideas about future face-to-face meetings and to share if they think of any.
Members are planting the wildflower mix as distributed by an earlier speaker. We can continue to do so through the monsoon season. Book to help identify: Native Plants for High Elevation for Western Gardening, available on Amazon.
Portion of our Rotary dues that go to the Foundation can be paid for through Rotary Gives. Club grants are available for member participation.
The club received a $320 check from the district which is going to Flagstaff Family Food Center.
Inducting a new member, Lee Riddell. She is sponsored by Meredith Potts.
Meredith spoke on her behave and shared very positive validation for her to join our club.
Others who spoke on her behalf to share the induction script: Steve Colf, Hoppy, Vaugn Winborn (shared we will be 100-year-old club next year), Jeff Ross (showed her the items she will receive once we can meet in person again including a pin and four-way test plaque).
Lee Riddell was asked to share about herself. She has always been involved in community service to support others. When relocating to Flagstaff from New York she wanted to do the same.
The club membership verbally pledged our support in respect and friendship.
Introduced the guest speaker, Tim Carter, Emergency Management of Coconino County.
We are under a Red Flag Warning currently in our area; it is wild fire season.
This agency provides support and coordination for responders and provides information and intelligence to County officials for better decision-making.
We can’t prevent a wildfire from happening so we must prepare our homes and educate our communities. One essential is a “to go bag” that can be grabbed at a moment’s notice. Don’t forget about your pets. Local firefights can visit your home and provide a quick assessment of what you should do to prepare. Post wildfire flooding is a major issue. Post North Schultz fire produced major flooding that overwhelmed the community despite intense preparation. Tim shared photos of the aftermath. The Sunnyside neighborhood is now at risk following the Museum fire.
Emergency Notification System is also directed by Tim’s agency. At a future face-to-face meeting he will share stickers and such as reminders of these services and what we should do. All that is needed to register is name, physical address, phone number, and email is optional. Everyone is encouraged to get prepared now. Three alert stages: Ready (prepare your home and property), Set (prepare to leave), Go (evacuate).
Jeff thanked the speaker and all guests for attending.
