This week's program
President Jeff called the last meeting of 2019 to order at 12:05.  The Pledge was led by  Jeremy.  Hoppy led us in a very enthusiastic verse of “Jingle Bells”. Jeremy introduced his youngest son Miles, and Mike Casey introduced his guest, Charles, the northern Arizona PayChex rep.
Eric Walden asked us to reflect on the Rotary motto, Service Above Self, and what is service?  Is it our done in a day service projects, or writing a check to support a cause, or reaching out and really connecting with someone?
Carla introduced her officers for next year – President Elect Tonya, Secretary/Administrator Paul, and Treasurer Mike Hosking.  Approval of these officers was unanimous.
Lee led off Happy Bucks by writing a $77 check to the Salvation Army, in honor of his birthday, which was today (I won’t share how old he is…).  Carla was $9 happy both for her Thanksgiving trip and for being able to spend Christmas with her grandson.  Prez Jeff donated $10 for his 7 year old grandson who will be visiting from Houston, and hopefully get to see snow for the first time!
Frank introduced Ari Wilder, Executive Director  of Friends of Camp Colton.  The non-profit was established in 2001 to support the educational mission and sustainability of Camp Colton.  Built by Dick and Jean Wilson, Camp Colton was originally operated as a summer camp for Tucson inner city boys, before they donated the property and buildings to the Flagstaff Unified School District in 1976.  They will be celebrating 50 years in 2020!  The Camp currently operates between May and June, and August through October, and serves approximately 750 6th graders each year.  Spending 4 days and 3 nights at the Camp, students learn about the natural environment, as well as enjoy outdoor experiences.  Since they now serve so many more than originally built for, their goal is to expand the number of cabins and bathrooms, build a new lodge, and have dedicated, permanent astronomy space.  Their annual fundraiser, Kahtoola Uphill Race, is scheduled for February 8.  Plenty of opportunity for volunteers, and still time to get your team of racers together.
Our next meeting is January 7, when Jim Bissonett, District Rotary International Foundation Chair will be our speaker.  Frank led us in the 4 Way Test, and the meeting was adjourned at 1:00.
